not sure in the case of Fury but it's not the first time an unmorphed Ranger has taken on a villain.
MMPR did it a few times with Goldar.
There's probably other times but I just don't recall them.

Here's a list of some unmorphed fights against villains including monsters-of-the-day but excluding foot soldiers such as Putties.

perhaps you didn't notice but they weren't able to lift the car unmorphed until the Energems started activating which gave them additional strength. They weren't trying to make it obvious they just wanted you to figure it out for yourself once you saw the gems started glowing.

I love seeing the Sentai footage here. Since they are adapting one of my favorite Sentais. The footage is just bueatiful.

I think Riley was able to take on Fury because he took him by surprise. He never expected him to be able to fight back. Nor was he prepared for Riley to bond with the Energem and get that sword from out of nowhere.

I liked the episode. It was fun to watch and it was cool to see the team together. I think I am really going to like Riley. It was cool when the energem bonded with him and he got the sword.
