no I don't believe it was keep in mind the Rangers don't typically want to destroy their zords to begin with so it wouldn't be enough to tell us if it was alive or not.

I like to think that the animal-based Zords are somewhere in-between being alive and deceased. Their natural bodies are long-gone, but their souls still want to keep up the fight against evil. So the MM Dinozords, Ninjazords, Shougnzords and pretty much any animal-based Zord was half alive and it somehow had a will of its own. This was demonstrated in PRLG when Torozord refused to obey the original Magna Defender. So it's understandable that the Rangers didn't want to destroy Dragonzord.

This makes sense because Kimberly reacts dramatically when she and her teammates witnessed the Thunder Megazord and Tigerzord still trying to stay in the fight, but eventually ended up blowing up and their parts flying all over the place to the ground. Yes, the Thunderzords were based on different animals, but still had something of their Dinozords left in them. Not to mention Lost Galaxy's Stratoforce, Centaurus and Zenith Megazords. The Galactabeasts were clearly alive somehow, even in their Zord and Megazord forms, which is why the Galaxy Megazord and Torozord refused to fight their friends. They recognized them.

The same is with the Dragonzord. He doesn't want to fight for evil or destroy anyone or anything, but he can't help himself if he's given the order to do so. He can't just walk away, unlike Dragon Cesar who suffered because of Burai's death in Zyuranger.
I don't think it's fair to compare all animal zords as being the same. The GalactaBeasts, Torozord and Wildzords for example were different animals compared to the MMPR Dinozords, MMPR Thunderzords, Ninjazords and Ninja Storm's Ninjazords.
The GalactaBeasts and Torozord both have a will of their own as did Centaurus, Stratoforce and Zenith but we can't say the same thing about other zords except for the Wildzords and most of the ones shown in Dino Charge since we never saw any instances of other zords having a will of their own.
