Default The decline of the Sixth Ranger

During the early days of Power Rangers , the Six Ranger was very important. The debut of the Six Ranger was usually something to look foward too. Usually the Six Ranger was an interesting figure that really seemed to be special. In recent years it really feels like Power Rangers has lost this aspect. Six Ranger's no longer feels special. And their introductions feel more generic at times.

The tradition started with Tommy of course. Many would say that the introduction of Tommy as the Green Ranger, sparked the Power Rangers fad. Tommy would always come in to save the team when they needed it. He had a cool Zord that was as powerful as the others combined. Plus he had the costume that stood out with that powerful shield. Then you had the whole power loss issue. And the soap oprah that came from that when he came back. This kept the character fresh and made the viewers want more. Tommy as the White Ranger still felt special. But in this case he felt like more part of the team. The White Ranger Powers we're still special.

The Gold Ranger had a good introduction. And when Trey passed his powers to Jason, it diffinitly felt special to fans. Jason was a good chioce to be Six Ranger. Phantom Ranger was interesting. But as a Sixth he kind of ended up being a let down. Zhane was cool but lacked the sort of presence that Tommy and Jason had. I'd say ditto for Mike as Megna Defender. Ryan was very interesting as Titanium Ranger. Even if we didn't see much of him. Eric was an excellent Sixth Ranger. Who took the lone Wolf Qualities to the max. Merrick was pretty interesting but in some ways didn't really feel like a great sixth ( kinda thumbs in the middle). . Cam had a lot of background based on being part of the show already. And was diffinitly someone the audience routed for. Trent was interesting in that he was the first Evil Sixth Ranger in awhile,Trent himself didn't really have the screen stealing momments that a Sixth would have ( of course he was technically a Sixth Ranger.Doggie Cruger was an interesting Sixth but he was really more of a mentor. Daggeron was the same and really was not a memorable Sixth. Tyzonn had a good intro, but really didn't feel as special as other Sixths. Dom didn't really feel special either. Gem and Gemma diffinitly were not you're typical Sixth.

So a lot of the recent Sixth's felt more like regular Rangers. Characters like Dom, Tyzonn, Gem, and Gemma were fine as Ranger a characters themselves. They just didn't feel like Sixth Rangers. It really feels like the art of the Sixth Ranger has been lost. And we are just using Sixth Rangers for the sake of using them. No character really stands out. It seems like this has developed over time. The decline actually started with Turbo. But we did get a good come back with LR and Time Force. Ninja Storm probably had the best Sixth Ranger of the Disney era. Which is understandable. As its hard to keep coming up with great Sixth Rangers. It just feels like a lost art these days.
