If you're talking about something like Super Megaforce I think they would be able use both Battle Grid mode, and the full armor.

I did once have an idea for a story that the Battle Grid suits started as prototypes of the main suits reverse engineered from Ranger suit schematics because the Box of Isis was a relic of Eltar but I'm not sure if that's what you mean.
