Kalish or Sloan
Which Disney Showrunner was the best.?
I am going to saw Kalish since he seemed to really understand the Disney way of doing things. I think NS and DT were great because Disney micro-managed Sloan into doing things the right way. |
Re: Kalish or Sloan
Both were miserable failures. Which is surprising since Sloan was involved in MMPR-Turbo. But Lynn was around MMPR-Time Force and his current run has been bad too. So I guess PR is just hard to produce under DIsney and Saban Brands.

Re: Kalish or Sloan
PR needs someone like Amit to get it back on track.

Re: Kalish or Sloan
I have to say Kalish since I am a SPD fan more than being a Power Rangers fan.

Re: Kalish or Sloan
Kalish at least understood American Sentai should be close to Super Sentai. Only Jonathon Tzachor had a better run producing American Sentai faithful to the source. Even after the diabolical that was Space and Lost Galaxy.

Re: Kalish or Sloan
Yes, Space and Galaxy were really absolute garbage. And it angers me to this day what they did to Megaranger and Gingaman. But I blame Lynn for this as Jonathon cracked down on his grandstanding starting with LR. Not to mentioned produced great American Sentai like Time Force and Wild Force. Its likely his run on Samurai and Megaforce would have been better without the Saban Brands MMPR nostalgia push..But he did a good job adapted Sentai given those circumstances.
I am going to have to choose Kalish here as he had a similar mindset to Tzachor. He knew it wasimportant to follow Sentai very closely. He was wise to downplay the tired "Power Rangers" approach and treat American Sentai like Super Sentai. Sloan was like Lynn in a lot ways. Ninja Storm did at least have a lot of Sentai elements. So I will give him that. DinoThunder was pretty bad an insult to Abaranger though. |
Re: Kalish or Sloan
Sloan was thinking co-creator of NInja Storm. The best season and really the only one that matters. So I have go with him. Even if I have no interest in DinoThunder or his early work.

Re: Kalish or Sloan
Kalish is underrated in some ways..But I think Sloan was much better and had a better understanding of Power Rangers. Given he had more experience with the franchise going into his Disney Seasons.

Re: Kalish or Sloan
I like Sloan better. He was a part of my favorite era of the show in MMPR to Zeo.
|
Re: Kalish or Sloan
I have to say Doug just because he pretty much did mostly original stories so he was more creative with how he wrote whereas in Bruce's case he was mostly copying stories so he wasn't being creative. Copying stuff is not creative writing it just shows that all you care about is your check and nothing else.

Re: Kalish or Sloan
I agree , Sloan was the much better writer. People used to be way too hard on Kalish. Mostly.because he didn't interview well.
|
Re: Kalish or Sloan
I like them both..
|
Re: Kalish or Sloan
Im surprised Sloan didn't do a better job since he was such a big part of MMPR.
|
Re: Kalish or Sloan
Perhaps Saban's people had to micro-managing him during MMPR like Disney did with nNinja Storm and DinoThunder..
|
Re: Kalish or Sloan
Sloan since he worked on MMPR at least.
|
Re: Kalish or Sloan
Its hard to say since I liked the ahow under Sloan better during his first run, but that was mostly do to Saban. I would say they are even. Since both underwhelmed without Saban tk answer to.
|
Re: Kalish or Sloan
Saban has largely been the money guy and promoted the show in the media. He gets credit for coming up with the concept of the show and adapting Sentai. Plus he did read over the scripts in season.1. But for the most part he has let creative do its own thing. He isn't really a writer or tv producer in the conventional sense..Sloan worked under Levy during his first run. With Tzachor being the showrrunner by the time he left. When he returned Sloan only had to answer to Disney. The same with Kalish's run.

Re: Kalish or Sloan
Sloan understood Power Rangers more than Kalish.
|
Re: Kalish or Sloan
Doug Sloan is one of the best. Kalish is a good tv writer but didn't entirely understand he show.
|
Re: Kalish or Sloan
I think Sloan had a better understanding of continuity.
|
Re: Kalish or Sloan
Sloan's probably better then Kalish.
