Shout releasing Sentai on DVD

Shout! Factory announced yesterday during Comic Con that they will be releasing Zyuranger on DVD.

Re: Shout! Factory announces surprise release at Comic Con yesterday

Will it be dubbed or subbed? I hoped that it will be dubbed. The Power Rangers universe might have have the dubbed version, back when the Power Rangers first appeared. ;)

Re: Shout! Factory announces surprise release at Comic Con yesterday

dunno but Shout! Factory rarely ever dubs anything since that costs more money.

That sounds cool.

I wonder what other Toei superheroes shows we could get if this does good.

so do I, so do I but I would assume other Sentai would be a possibility.

Based on the only history that I could find, Shout! Factory released Transformers Japanese Collection: Headmasters on DVD not too long ago and it's complete with Japanese audio and English subtitles and no English dub.

Didn't they also release Masterforce.

Thanks.

Hopefully if this sells good we can get Dairanger, or Metalder, or Goranger.

sounds like Zyuranger sold well enough since they released Dairanger, Kakuranger, Ohranger and Carranger since then and will be releasing Megaranger in October. Metalder is part of another franchise so the odds of that happening would be slim. The odds of them releasing Goranger I don't know I mean they might if they get too close to whatever Saban is adapting into Power Rangers since I can definitely see that Saban wouldn't be happy with them releasing the source footage of the season that they're currently adapting but that's something that they wouldn't need to worry about for quite awhile.

Good news Shout! Factory has announced that Gingaman will be coming to the states on a DVD set next year.

For those of you who don't know this is the Super Sentai that Power Rangers Lost Galaxy is adapted from.

Re: Shout to release Zyuranger on DVD

and GoGoV will also be coming. I'm going to sticky this thread from now on so I don't have to go looking for it for the next release.

Its very nice that these series are being released to western consumers. A far cry from the years where you had to tape trade or purchase fan subs.

that it is and Saban didn't have any issues with Shout! doing it that was usually the problem. Saban was very happy about the idea.

someone asked them about Kamen Rider and they said they'd like to BUT they don't have the rights to it.

Excellent, the more Japanese Sentai the west can be exposed to this the better.

MattEmily 05/14/18 11:29 PM

Re: Shout releasing Sentai on DVD

indeed. this is how things should be done. let Power Rangers air on TV while Sentai gets released on DVD.

I don't think anyone did and if someone claims they did I wouldn't believe them personally I thought we had at least 2 years before they did pre-Zyu

Re: Shout releasing Sentai on DVD

Can't say I did.

If anything I figured that they would wait until they caught up to the current Sentai and start with Goranger.

tell me about it but I can see Metal Heroes DVDs coming out since there's only about 17 (but don't forget Spielban was before Metalder and Shaider was even before them) as opposed to Kamen Rider DVDs since there are 27 series and there's been a new one ever year since the 1979 Skyrider one.

no doubt that's what I expected as well

Re: Shout releasing Sentai on DVD

I think it's smart to release the pre-Zyu stuff like this since they just don't know what the response will be. There are 15 pre-Zyu ones and we have to remember the rights are extra weird when it comes to Goranger and J.A.K.Q. which were created by Ishinomori and Battle Fever J, Denziman and Sun Vulcan were both produced by Marvel Comics I think this is the reason why they're going backwards with the pre-Zyu series so that it gives them more time to work out the issues.

Hopefully this is will lead to the end or American Sentai and a true import of Japanese Sentai.
