Why didn't Disney hire Saban?

They should have hired him to continue to run Power Rangers after the buyout.

Re: Why didn't Disney hire Saban?

Saban wasn't a production guy. And he had just sold the series. They did keep the majority of MMPR Productions for a year. But they weren't looking to buy pr in the first place. Doug and Ann came to them after they cancelled the series.

No matter how hard we try to tell him , he still thinks Saban is some kind of writer and producer.

it was just Doug who came to Disney. Ann had nothing to do with it as far as I recall

that's because he's living in a fantasy world where he thinks Haim is just like any TV Executive Producer.

MattEmily 11/04/17 06:35 PM

Re: Why didn't Disney hire Saban?

a lot of other Executive Producers actively engage in the production of their show including being on set as much as possible but this wasn't the case with Haim Saban.

Doug Sloan and Ann did it with Ninja Storm and Dino Thunder even to the point of taking the drastic step of moving to New Zealand to do the work.

Chip has also been in New Zealand for Dino Charge and more than likely Ninja Steel. I don't know if he went to the drastic step that Doug and Ann did of actually moving there even on a temporary basis but it wouldn't surprise me.

Also these following shows aren't related to Power Rangers but Jeff Franklin of Full House and Fuller House was also actively engage in both shows' productions even to the point of regularly being on the set.

Alfred Gough was also involved with Smallville he was heavily involved with it in the beginning but not to the point Doug, Ann, Chip and Jeff would've been. He was more like in the middle since he had hired other people to deal with the actual writing of the episodes.

Usually the main exec producer is the showrunner in TV. But there are exceptions....Especially for Turbo part 2-WF. Jonathon was technically the producer but became Showrunner mid Turbo. Levy was Executive Producer with Saban. But he only was showrunner from MMPR to Turbo Par 1. In both cases there was another interesting wrinkle. Levy and Tzachor were both directors and not writers. Usually a showrunner has more of a writing background. But both had more influence creatively than Saban. We know Tzachor had a lot of influence. But this senario did make story editors like Sloan, Lynn, Marachand, and Bhaumik even more important

During the Disney era they had more conventional showrunners. Sloan and Kalish were both from writing backgrounds and credited as Execs. As were Eddie and Judd. The new Saban era went back to Tzachor as a director showrunner but credited as Executive this time. Now that Lynn has joined its back to Disney era style.

Its all depends on your opinion.

Re: Why didn't Disney hire Saban?

Not necessarily. Opinions are fine and should be respected. But there is such a thing as an informed opinion. And in this case its mostly fact. Especially the statement of Saban not being that involved creatively.

Two biggest creative influences Saban had with this show were deciding to license Super Sentai Footage ckmbine it with American Civilian Scenes to make Power Rangers...And the fact he oversaw things a bit more in season 1, mainly reviewing scripts and stuff. But beyond that he was very much just the business guy. Saban was more of a programming guy in the Saban Entertainment era. Now he is mainly an owner or the brand.

Right, George Lucas didn't sell Star Wars so he could work for Disney. And they didn't hire him to run the brand.

no he wasn't. That's just in yours and Saban Fan's fantasy world. Tell me something if you seriously think he was that involved. How come he had no freaking clue who Karan Ashley (Aisha) was when they were doing something for the first movie? If he was involved as you 2 claimed then he would've known who she was but he didn't.

Not quite "mostly fact" it is fact there's nothing "mostly" about it in fact it's 100% fact but yes that's pretty much correct although we don't know if he was reviewing things back in the first season he didn't even have a clue how to writer the show how he knew was that he wanted to bring the show over but replace the Japanese cast of Rangers and allies with an American crew and ADR the rest but he wasn't sure how to do it since he's not a writer or a Director that's why he entrusted things to Tony Oliver to figure out a plan on how to map the system out.

They kept the same production team for a year before making changes. And even then hired old crewmembers to run the thing until they left.

Saban should have been more involved after season 1. So the quality of the show didn't dip. Maybe Tommy and Kim would have stayed together. But it depends on Saban's opinions.

Saban was never going to run production of the show. And doesn't now. Back then he was getting out of children's television anyway.

Disney shouldn't have laid Tzachor off. He at least understood how to adapr Super sentai closely. Too bad misguided writers like Judd Lynn and Amit Bhaumik got in his way.

Tommy and Kimberly wouldn't have stayed together for 1 simple fact - Amy Jo would still be asking to leave the show since she didn't want to be on the show anymore. Why can't you a Kimberly worshipper understand that? if you're as much in love with her as you claim to be then you would respect what happened instead of hating on what happened but clearly you can't respect people or characters so for someone who claims that we're Kimberly haters it's actually YOU who is the Kimberly hater since you actually disrespect her. Someone who likes Kimberly wouldn't be attacking Kimberly as much as you do.

LOL no you don't otherwise you wouldn't be calling her naive for trusting Kat. That's called disrespect. I don't hate Kimberly at all in fact the only Rangers who I truly hate are Justin and Will.

Kimberly isn't my favorite Pink Ranger but she is I would say in the top 6. There are other Pink Rangers lower than her notably Mia.

that's correct that's why Wild Force was meant to be the end of the series so MMPR Productions was disbanded and all of the crew members had been let go but Doug had went to his Bosses and persuaded them to bring it back by suggesting that they could save on costs on filming it in New Zealand which is how that happened.

Bandora's Ghost 11/10/17 09:15 PM

Re: Why didn't Disney hire Saban?

They just kept it going for a year and quietly canceled it to save money. Doug and Ann convinced Disney to keep the show going by moving to New Zealand, to save on production costs.

I think people like Sloan and Lynn were more influential than Saban.

Re: Why didn't Disney hire Saban?

Saban just believed in the concept if combining Super Sentai footage with American Civilian scenes. He is proud of the brand, based on how he went to the trouble to buy it back. But he isn't a creative guru.

Captain Codfish 11/12/17 11:51 AM

Re: Why didn't Disney hire Saban?

The reality is there are many names that have shepherded the series creatively. Saban is not really one of them. But he gets credit for coming up with the idea of the show and funding it. Not to mention funding a new company to buy it back once Disney cancellee the series.

Diabolico Rising 11/12/17 11:53 AM

Re: Why didn't Disney hire Saban?

I get the impression that Saban regretted not making PR excluded from the Saban Entertainment sale. Given he would have sold everything else, I think PR would have closed down for awhile after one more year of Wild Force. There would have been a rival though.

Jen's Revenge 11/12/17 11:56 AM

Re: Why didn't Disney hire Saban?

I do wonder if Time Force would have been it for awhile. Given the sale happened during post production. Would Wild Force have just remained on Fox all year? Or would it have been scrapped entirely?

Power Sentai 11/12/17 11:59 AM

Re: Why didn't Disney hire Saban?

It all depends if Fox Kids wanted the whole season. We know Wild Force finished up on ABC Kids and Fox Kids itself closed down soon after perhaps Saban would have sold WF's second half to Fox Box and possibly future seasons.

Sentai Is Forever 11/12/17 12:02 PM

Re: Why didn't Disney hire Saban?

Wild Force would have finished on Fox Box. American Sentai would then be replaced by dubbed Super Sentai. Fox Box did buy a dubbed version of Ultraman Tiga.

Enjoy your seven day vacation from the board for flaming.

I don't mind if people want to compare PR and Sentai in gen discussion. But save the drama for the Sentai Snob forum.
